Christian Education

Derbyshire Baptist Church is committed to Christian Education. Our members believe that the church has a responsibility to assist seekers in their quest for spiritual growth. Effective Christian education is a matter of formation as we seek to be formed into the likeness of Christ. All aspects of congregational life are necessary for effective faith formation.

Worship
Worship is provided on Sunday mornings at 8:30 am and 11:00 am. This is the time we gather as the People of God to give testimony to our relationship to God and others. Therefore, it is an important form of Christian Education.

Bible Study

We gather at 9:45 am in small groups each Sunday to study God's word. Sunday School provides an opportunity for all family members to experience Bible learning in a caring and loving environment. It is a time to deepen faith, expand friendships, and help persons understand and apply biblical truths to their everyday lives. Classes use various teaching methodologies to engage members in learning.

Small Group Opportunities

Sunday evening and weekly activities for all ages help persons grow more in their likeness to Christ and develop skills for ministry. Wednesday evening activities include adult seminars, missions and music education for children, youth studies, opportunities for prayer, and fellowship at supper with Christian friends.

Small group study opportunities with others is encouraged as a primary form for effective spiritual formation as well as diverse experiences in prayer. A Prayer Cove Ministry, and Sacred Space are a couple of ways we are prayerful and reflective in our faith.

Weekday Mornings provide two programs designed to meet the educational and developmental needs of preschool children in our community. The Derbyshire Preschool and Mom's Free Morning  programs meet from 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon.

In January of 2005 our church launched a Teaching/Learning Discipleship Model comprised of ten lay-led ministry teams that guide the life and work of the church. A members-only Training Resource Center provides online leadership training for the leaders of the church. A small group Christian Vocation Class each quarter followed by individual consultations helps members discern and use their gifts in ministry and understand God's calling upon their lives. This class supports the work of our ministry teams.

Everything that occurs at Derbyshire has educative value and strengthens our worship of God and service to others. As Christ's body of believers, we are accountable to one another to be who God has called us to be and to do what God calls us to do by growing in Christlikeness.
